Abstract

It is well known of the benefits attributed to resistance training (RT) associated with regular and moderate red wine intake (VT). Objective: To investigate the effect of eight weeks of TR and the intake of VT on muscle strength and the performance of upward velocity in the vertical ladder in Wistar rats. Methodology: Animals were divided into 2 groups: 20 rats per group: exercise group (SG) and wine and exercise group (SVG) submitted to exercise and wine intake for 8 weeks. Vertical ladder training with 80 degrees of slope 3 times per week. Results: Body mass of the groups increased significantly from week 1 compared to 8. Muscle strength of both SG and GVE increased significantly, initial and final loads (311.7 ± 29.5 vs 362.5 ± 29.5). Ladder climb velocity the LVG presented greater ability in relation to LS at week 8. Final Considerations: Eight weeks of RT produces improvements in muscle strength and speed in Wistar rats with gains being maximized the association of VT.
