The Significance of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine: Applications and Perspectives
Main Article Content
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents one of the most remarkable achievements in computer science and software engineering in recent decades. In the context of medicine, AI is emerging as a cutting-edge tool with transformative potential, concerning health data management, diagnostic accuracy, personalized patient treatments, disease prevention, research enhancement, medical education, and surgical technique improvement. The present study aims to highlight the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and its applications within the medical field. It is a bibliographic and qualitative review conducted in the databases: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System On-Line (MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Pubmed and Google Scholar, from the last five years, in Portuguese and English languages. The analysis of the articles points out AI's role through fast data processing, facilitating the digitization of medical records and examinations, searching for information on hospitalized patients, as well as performing bedside ultrasounds with suggested possible pathologies (the "Butterfly iQ" device), and enhancing the integration of the medical team through telemedicine for personalized patient treatment and pathology resolution. Thus, it is undeniable that the future of the medical and multidisciplinary field revolves around the use of Artificial Intelligence in its various facets. However, it is emphasized that AI should not replace qualitative medical care but rather enhance access to healthcare and humanized care.
